My favourite time of year has come around again, World Watercolor Month!! A watercolour every day for the whole of July… And it’s an official event now, so I have to spell it correctly, even if the powers that be have missed out a letter 😉 (sorry Charlie!).
To save myself time and brainache I’m going to follow the prompts again this year, which still means an hour or too of head scratching and google searching every day before I have any idea what to paint.
So, the fun began yesterday on 1st July and the prompt for Day 1 was ‘Sunny Days’. After a reasonably short search I came across a cute photo of a dog in a hammock – What? Doesn’t that just scream out ‘Sunny Days’ to you? Well never mind… it was just too tempting a subject to pass by, and was great fun to tackle too 🙂 .
The suggestion for Day 2 (today) is Delicious Food and I was so tempted to paint a big fried breakfast, but then I had second thoughts (too many individual items to paint on a work day 😛 ) and went for a favourite cake instead – Swedish Tea Ring.
This was a recipe we learnt to cook in school and has been a firm favourite ever since. Something like a giant Chelsea bun, or a cinnamon scroll without the cinnamon, it’s made with sweet bread dough rolled up with dried fruit and butter and sugar, baked and then topped with glace icing and cherries – I think the recipe we were shown had Angelica pieces as well, which I don’t believe I’ve seen in any recipe since 😛 .
I have to say, I’m more than happy with the first two days of the challenge, let’s see if I can keep it up! And the only thing that’s missing now is a cup of tea and a piece of that cake, except that unfortunately I wasn’t painting from life!
Oh! As ever, so sensitive and full of life. Love the pup….and if it wasn’t sunny, well, he wouldn’t be lying there, would he? Oh wait. He’s not a cat. Who knows why he’s there….
I take my hat off to you Kez, two fantastic paintings, and only day two. Absolutely cracking start to the month, and we know that you can keep it up !!
Thank you Mum! Bit slower off the mark today… 🙂
